Its elementary my dear Watson!

Well after a long hiatus from this blog, due in large part to my temporary second job I am using to speed up the process of dumping debt from my life, I am back with another game to recommend. It is an oldie but I recently rediscovered it in its updated glory.

It is called Sherlock. It is a logic puzzle game, published by Everett Kaser Software. It is addictive and it is in a real way instructive to the mind.

It can be played on all levels in its demo mode. There are only 5 puzzles per level but that means there are 40 puzzles to play which will thoroughly addict you and make you more than happy to buy the full version for the standard video game price of just under $20, (that's $19.95 if you hadn't already guessed.)

Civilization 3

Talk about ADDICTIVE games... I popped in an oldie Sid Meyer's Civilization 3 nearly a week ago. I will be darned if I didn't just spend nearly the entire week concuring the world again until 3 or 4 am each night...

Cradle of Rome - Puzzle game

Well there goes another 3 hours of the enjoyably playing in the evening hours after the house has gone still and quiet save for me.... ;) I just played through all of the free levels available on Cradle of Rome it is put out by GameTop (I recommend looking at the bottom of their webpage as it has a list of old time games that have been released as freeware). It is a fun and definitely addictive puzzle game; I would have to say that if I were still spending money with reckless abandon I would have pulled out my credit card and purchased this game just to continue playing.

Alas on the part of GameTop, Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover has happened and I have done the responsible thing and cut my credit card up for good in favor of financial sanity. Though I must say I am going to look this game up in a few months after I have paid off the old credit card off using Dave's wise steps and buy it with some "blow money" because it really is a lot of fun.

Addicting Games Website

This is just one of those websites that you are going to love!

It is full of free games that you can play online. What's not to love?!?!

The website is aptly named Addicting Games. Most of them are that indeed.

There are too many to list as favorites... But I will review them one by one as I play them, I just didn't want you to miss out on all the addicting fun there is to be had on this website while I am "researching" for a game review... ;) Okay! I admit it I am playing a game of Territory War right now! This is an awesome game to play with a friend. It is in the classic style of Scorched Earth... Oh! What sweet memories the mention of SE brings to mind... I guess I will have to find that game again!!! After all, I love the smell of Napalm in the morning.... ;)

AstroPop Rocks!!

I purchased a PopCap Games called AstroPop. It is as addictive as the come as well you can spend hours seeking to gain all the parts of the story as it is told from the perspective of the four main characters. It is your classic arcade puzzle game with a cool sci-fi storyline.

It is one of the few games that my wife actually plays. She actually beat me to the final game sequence. She much prefers a good book to a video game so that should tell you just how addictive the game is once you start playing. This is a game that you could play at anytime of the day. The game can be quit at any point and picked back up from the same place at another time on a subsequent computer login.

My seven year old love this game so much he is drawing new ships and characters for the "next" AstroPop game that he wants to "make". Looks like another generation of computer gamer is indeed well into its formation.

Still Playing after FIVE YEARS...

Slay is a strategy turn based game based upon a hexagonal board. It is increadibly simple in its play and I have been playing it for nearly FIVE YEARS... That classifies any game as addictive.
It has won a number of awards and if nothing else is worth buying as a stand alone game.

However, I would recommend buying the "Everything Windows" package for $40. Sean updates his games and adds new ones all the time. When he adds a new game to the "Everything Windows" package existing customers get the upgrade for get this... FREE! You cannot beat that price long-term. Download the package and see if there aren't at least three games in there that you will play for years to come. I know I still am!

Just Another Video Game Reviewer Blog... Oh joy of joys!

There are thousands of Video Game Reviews out there. Why on earth am I starting another one? Because almost all of them DO NOT review the types of games that I play. If you are looking for the review of the latest XBOX game or other console game you are in the wrong spot! I do not own a console nor do I plan on buying one anytime soon. That is not to say I have a problem with these types of games it is simply that I do not play them very often.

I mostly play casual games available on the PC. Those are games that are not normally sold in big retail chains.

If I am playing the game it is addictive and it likely it is thought intensive or mindless arcade action. The key word there is addictive. Perhaps not on the initial glance, because I have one that I initially disliked because the trial version was unwinalbe [yes, that is not a "real" word, I know it and you know it; but who cares you know what it means and so do I so keep reading and stop critiquing my spelling... ;) ] and frustrating. That game is called Slay and it was created by the independent video game designer extraordinaire, Sean O'Conner. He has several titles by the way and I will discuss them all; some good some average and others that are just not my style... See my next post for details.
